What we are
and what we live for
is a look beyond the abyss.
Oh, how we dodge the hollow eye
to shun the day we must die.
Upon a crumbling cliff we stand,
hand in hand,
to soothe our hearts.
We dare to breathe
even an instant before the plunge.

A bit morbid and ironic, and that's what makes a unique verse.
